My name is Rene Prado, and I Graduated from  Arizona State University. With a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance I was am a first generation college student and I have always known I wanted to get a college education I would give thank parents and how they motivate and support me with my goal of attending Arizona State University.  My family didn't have the funds to help me pay for my education. My mother worked in the fields for twenty years picking vegetables, earning very low wages. My mom now sews and bakes cakes to earn extra money. I see how she puts a great amount of effort to provide for out family.  She encourages me to go to school, motivates me to never drop out, and supports me on what I want to study, which makes me feel that she cares about me. My mom has taught me that going to school and earning a degree will open many opportunities that will allow me to have a good job. My mom has been my mentor, she pushes me to continue school and to choose a career that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. I thank her every day for supporting me because she is helping me continue with my education.

While attending Arizona State University, I would like to provide some information on why I think I should qualify for the scholarship. One, I have always been very involved in participating in many community projects. For example, I was involved in Amanda Aguirre’s political campaign when ran for State Congress during the summer of 2012. Furthermore, I supported the Regional Center for Border Health under Amanda Aguirre’s leadership, as a Community outreach worker. Some of my activity there where to inform people about health resources in the community and the importance of getting health insurance or medical discounts. In addition to this, I have also done other extracurricular activities such as participating in a theatrical play, “My Family Does Matter program”, with other teen volunteers serving in the cast with Campesinos sin Fronteras. With this group, which is a community youth group, I participated in fundraising events such as car washes, foods sales and raffles to raise funds for the agency. I also volunteered with AmeriCorps giving presentation to farm workers about pesticides and how to protect themselves for the chemicals. I have done all this because I like to help the community, the people and local agencies.
